When we first launched our Auth product back in 2014, it marked the first time that consumers could make an ACH payment without typing in their bank account and routing numbers. ACH is the largest payment network in the United States and processes more than $40 trillion each year—underlying things like utility bill payment, payroll direct deposit, bank account transfers, and paper checks. Even today, most ACH payments require that consumers type in account and routing numbers and then wait 2 to 4 days to receive a microdeposit verification. That's why we built Auth, our account authentication product—to enable real-time ACH setup without using sensitive account and routing numbers.

Today, we're excited to share that Auth now works for more than 1,500 institutions! This represents a significant increase from the ~60 institutions we covered at the start of this year. This coverage also translates to more than 85 percent of bank accounts connected via Plaid, including hundreds of community banks and credit unions. Want to see the full list of institutions we now support? Check out our docs to see how to retrieve a complete and up-to-date list from our API.

For those of you currently using Auth, you automatically have access to all of these new institutions. Link, our cross-platform, drop-in module, is the easiest and simplest way to make sure you’re always offering your users the most up-to-date list of institutions. Link automatically includes the latest institutions, products, and MFA flows—all with no code changes required from you.

Stay tuned—there’s much more to come! And as always, please reach out with any questions or feedback.
